A man has been rescued after getting trapped in an old mineshaft in Cornwall.

West Cornwall Search and Rescue Team (WCSAR) said the man was stuck on a ledge 30ft (9m) down a vertical shaft at Twelveheads near Truro.

The alarm was raised at 17:00 GMT on Saturday by the man's friend, according to the volunteer team.

The trapped explorer, who had been down the shaft for two hours, was recovered suffering from cold but unharmed.

Rescue officer Tom Mather said: "Thankfully he was stable and talking. However, the conditions were cold with constant heavy showers."

WCSAR chair Andy Brelsford said it was a "successful outcome", with "excellent work from all involved".

"I couldn't be prouder of everyone," he said. "It's great to see how the countless hours of training comes together."
