Cornwall beachgoers airlifted to safety as tide sweeps in
- Published
Two people were airlifted to safety after being trapped by the incoming tide on a Cornwall beach.
The RNLI said the tide was coming in fast at Tregonhawke and there was "no safe exit route up the cliff face".
Crews from Looe were sent but, with large waves breaking close to shore, it was decided the safest way to save the pair was by coastguard helicopter.
They were then winched to waiting coastguard rescue teams on the clifftop.
