Isles of Scilly: New pilot boat for St Mary's Harbour
- Published
The Duchy of Cornwall has bought a new pilot boat for its maritime operations on the Isles of Scilly.
It said the vessel would be delivered to St Mary's Harbour in late 2025 to replace the current pilot boat, Pegasus, which is nearing the end of its service life.
Piloting in the harbour has seen "significant growth", it added.
Dale Clark, harbour master at St Mary's Harbour, said the new vessel would be safer for pilots.
He said it would also help reduce transfer times for vessels arriving and departing the harbour.
"Cruise ship visits to the region have increased steadily over the last 10 years, and it is right to demonstrate that we are committed to the safety and wellbeing of our pilots by providing the best equipment," he said.
The vessel is being built by Norfolk-based Goodchild Marine Services.
