Beryl said it had expanded its e-bike scheme to Saltash

The operators of a fleet of electric share bikes have expanded the scheme in Cornwall.

Beryl, the company behind the scheme, said 44 e-bikes were now available for use from 15 new bays in Saltash and nearby Plymouth.

It said the use of e-bikes was good for public health and helped reduce congestion and carbon emissions.

The scheme is run by Beryl for Cornwall Council as part of a government-funded initiative to encourage active travel.

'Give it a try'

Phil Ellis, Beryl's chief executive officer and co-founder, said the company wanted to "break down the barriers to active travel".

"I'm delighted that we are now able to offer a shared, sustainable transport option to people in Saltash," he said.

"By swapping the car for an e-bike journey you're not only boosting your own health and fitness, you're also helping to reduce congestion and harmful carbon emissions, so why not give it a try."

The e-bike share scheme was launched in Falmouth in September 2022 and has since expanded to Penzance, Penryn, Truro, Newquay and St Austell.

Beryl said the bikes had completed more than 148,000 rides covering nearly 382,000km (240,000 miles).
