Cornwall Fire and Rescue were called to a house fire in Looe

Firefighters battled a major blaze which spread across homes on a Cornish housing estate, a councillor has said.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service was called on Monday evening to Woodlands View, West Looe, with six engines tackling the incident.

The service said all people "were accounted for".

Armand Toms, Cornwall councillor for Looe East and Deviock, said the blaze had impacted a number of homes.

Clothing donations

He said: "I went over and had a look and one of the properties was well alight.

"It had extended out into the roof and then started to go through to the adjoining properties."

He said the fire brigade from "nearly all of south-east Cornwall" had attended and that crews were "absolutely amazing".

He added: "The residents were all known to be safe. They were put up last night by a neighbour, which is testament of how the community can work together."

He said one family member had also been helped by clothing donations and steps were being taken to find emergency accommodation for those affected.
