Coventry pupils sent home for wearing wrong shoes

About 100 pupils from a Coventry school have been sent home for wearing the wrong type of shoes.
Cardinal Newman Catholic School's dress code states that all students must wear black shoes.
The school says over the past six months students and their parents have been reminded about the rule.
Head teacher Carol Buchanan said the pupils had not been excluded and were allowed to come back once they had changed their shoes.
She said the message was sent out to boys and girls in assemblies, via teachers and put in the school newsletter.
In Thursday's newsletter parents were informed that from Monday the school would be checking that students were in appropriate footwear and if they were not, they would be sent home to change.
She said: "We hoped that this would ensure that parents had time over the weekend to get matters sorted and if there were problems to get in touch with us.
"In the end around 100 of the school's 1,200 students were affected by the ruling and were sent home to change.
"Research shows that the vast majority of parents agree with the need for school uniform and are grateful because this eliminates bullying where some children cannot match the 'designer aspirations' of their peers."
