Proposals to redesign part of Coventry city centre ahead of the 2012 Olympics have been approved.

More trees will be planted in Broadgate and a traffic-free zone will be introduced as part of a £7m redesign which will also alter some subways.

The changes were approved at a city council meeting on Tuesday following consultations with residents.

Coventry is due to host some of the Olympic football games at the Ricoh Arena.
