Shakespeare wedding exhibition at Anne Hathaway's Cottage

All Saints' Church in Billesley is among those at the centre of wedding claims

An exhibition exploring the mystery of where William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway is opening in Warwickshire.

And Thereby Hangs a Tale at Anne Hathaway's Cottage has evidence for and against the five churches laying claim to the wedding, organisers said.

The Churches Conservation Trust exhibition will be officially opened by its chairman Loyd Grossman in Shottery, Stratford-upon-Avon, on Thursday.

A £47,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant has funded the exhibition.

On tour

All Saints' Church in Billesley, Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, All Saints' Chapel in Luddington and St Andrew's Church in Temple Grafton - all in Warwickshire - are involved in the exhibition, along with St Martin's Church in Worcester.

Elements of All Saints' Church and Holy Trinity Church date to Shakespeare's time, but the others have been completely rebuilt, the trust said.

Organisers said visitors would be able to make up their own minds about Shakespeare's 1582 wedding.

The exhibition will run from Friday until 29 January 2012. It will then move to Coventry Cathedral in February as it goes on tour.

It will also be at Worcester Cathedral, Warwickshire Records Office, Coughton Court near Alcester in Warwickshire, Holy Trinity Church in Stratford, Church of St Mary Magdelene at Croome Park in the Worcester area and Abington Park Museum in Northampton.
