Coventry City Council publishes 2012-13 budget proposals

Coventry City Council plans to cut 40 management jobs within the next 12 months to help make £17m of savings.

The Labour-run council also plans to freeze council tax at £1,471.08 for a band D property in 2012/13.

It estimates it can raise £60,000 by charging customers who use credit cards to pay for their council tax.

It said it could also raise £65,000 by increasing its charges for civil partnership and marriage licences. Full council has yet to vote on the budget.

The cabinet has identified a further £25,000 in revenues it can raise by increasing the amount it charges for issuing blue badges.

The parking badges are issued to drivers or passengers with severe mobility problems and cost £4.60 each. The council said it could charge up to £10 for them in future.

Full council will vote on the budget proposals on 21 February.
