White Street coach park to return to Coventry city centre

A Coventry car park is to be turned back into a coach park.

White Street car park has not been used by tourist coaches for about nine years and will become the official coach park for Coventry.

Coventry City Council has approved plans to transform the car park, which is close to Pool Meadow bus station.

A council spokesman said they hoped to close it on 31 March and reopen it as a coach park on 30 April, at a cost of around £15,000.

Coventry city councillor Linda Bigham, cabinet member for city development, said: "It was never fully utilised as a car park, I believe that it was only ever about 44% full."

However, some members of the public have expressed concerns that it will not have facilities such as toilets or shelters.

Passengers will have to go to Pool Meadow bus station instead.

Mike de Courcey, from De Courcey Travel, said travel operators from other parts of the country had previously complained of having nowhere to park in the city.

"Now they will have the facility to park and that is great," he said.
