Drivers have been urged to take extra care on the roads following heavy snowfall.

Stan Milewski, senior road safety officer for Warwickshire County Council, said gritting teams had been out "24-7" since the snow fell.

However, emergency services warned that many roads and pavements remained icy.

Bus services across Coventry and Warwickshire are subject to delays and diversions because of the conditions.

Mr Milewski said gritting lorries would be working throughout the weekend.

"Our highways teams have been out during the night trying to keep the major roads [clear] and in Warwickshire there's 1,800km (1,118 miles) of roads that highway teams are trying to keep open, so it's quite a big job really."

Saturday was expected to be largely cloudy with occasional snow flurries throughout the day, which will add to the lying snow in places.

BBC forecasters added it would feel bitterly cold with a brisk easterly wind.

On Friday, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said it had seen an increase in calls across the region, mainly because of slips and falls.
