A developer has inquired about building a football stadium in the Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council area, the leader of the authority has confirmed.

Councillor Dennis Harvey said the inquiry was "of a very speculative nature and at an early stage".

The news comes after the Coventry Telegraph, external reported a new Coventry City stadium could be built near Exhall.

Mr Harvey said the council was not considering a proposal for any particular location.

He said: "I can confirm that an inquiry has been made by a developer to council officers. However, this was of a very speculative nature and at an early stage.

"Since that initial exploratory contact we have received no further approach and we are therefore not considering any proposal for any particular location."

Coventry City have been playing home games 34 miles away at Northampton Town's Sixfields this season following the row with Arena Coventry Limited, the operators of the Ricoh arena, over unpaid rent.
