Work has started at the site of a new railway station for Kenilworth.

The site, on Priory Road, is being made safe so demolition work can begin to clear it.

Building work will start later in the year with a train service between Leamington Spa and Coventry hopefully starting in 2016.

The £11.3m station is being built on the site of the previous one which shut in the 1960s as part of the Beeching cuts.

After years of campaigning, the bid for a new station, in Priory Road, received government support in December 2013.

Operator London Midland has said it expects to provide the new service.
