Traffic cones have been put out into a road by a resident who said there has been accidents on his street.

The resident stated he bought 10 cones after an accident involving a bus and two cars in Binley Road, Coventry.

A pedestrian was struck in another incident, the man who wanted to remain anonymous said after the city council removed his cones for a second time.

The council said it appreciated someone had concerns but it could not allow cones to be put out on the road.

The problem was there were two bus stops quite close to each other and many drivers would try to overtake the buses when they were there.

The man said he put cones in the middle of the road in August to try to deter people from overtaking buses, after an accident.

'Stopped problems'

The council took them and gave him back the cones, which he put out again.

They were removed for the second time hours before a pedestrian was hit by a car, he said.

"Myself and the other residents have all seen that just literally nine cones I put out in the road have stopped all the problems.

"We'd just like to see something put in place, a few permanent sort of small cones."

In a statement, the council said: "We appreciate that a local person has some concerns but we cannot allow cones to be put out on the road however well intentioned that is.

"Any resident that has any concerns over a road should report it to us directly."
