The Edmondscote Athletics Track in Leamington Spa has been transferred from the council to Everyone Active

Warwick District Council has transferred the management of an athletics track in Leamington Spa to a company which runs other leisure facilities in the area.

Everyone Active operates council leisure centres across England.

The firm will now add the Edmondscote track to its portfolio in the district.

Everyone Active already runs the leisure centres at St Nicholas Park and Newbold Comyn.

Warwick District Council leader Ian Davison claimed the move would greatly benefit users of the facility.

"We are particularly keen to see increased participation rates," he said.

"We are working hard to ensure that there is a smooth transition, so the local clubs continue to meet as usual."

Sessions will continue

Alex Fuoco-Lang, contract manager in Warwick for Everyone Active said the facility will complement the company's fitness offering and provide new opportunities for athletes of all ages.

As well as hosting regular events and competitions, the 400-metre, all-weather track is home to a number of local clubs.

A spokesperson for Leamington Cycling & Athletics Club, external said they had met with both organisations and been told sessions would continue as usual for their athletes.
