New rules ban people riding e-bikes and e-scooters in parts of Coventry

A ban on e-scooters and e-bikes being ridden across pedestrian areas in a city has come into force.

There has been a two-week introductory period for the new rules for Coventry, during which the council said there had been an improvement.

"There has been an indication that the message is getting across to riders," said deputy council leader Abdul Salam Khan.

Anyone caught in breach of the rules faces a fine of up to £100.

The restrictions cover city centre pedestrian areas including Broadgate, Upper Precinct, Market Way, Smithford Way, Shelton Square, Hertford Street and Bull Yard.

The new rules state anyone using an e-bike or e-scooter must dismount in designated pedestrian areas.

Disabled riders and mobility scooter users are exempt from the new rules.
