Leamington Spa: Teen injured after alleged assault with weapon

A teenage boy was seriously injured after he was allegedly assaulted with a weapon.

A fight broke out outside a shopping centre before police were called to St Margaret's Road in Leamington Spa, where the alleged assault took place, on Sunday at 13:20 GMT.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 16-year-old male from Birmingham was arrested on Monday on suspicion of wounding, Warwickshire Police said.

A cordon was in place until 15:50 GMT on Sunday, the force said.

Insp Jem Mountford thanked the public for assisting in their inquiries so far, and said: "We have made an arrest in relation to this incident, and we don't believe there is any wider risk to the public at this time.

"I hope that our response today demonstrates that we will never tolerate violence in our community, and will always act quickly to investigate, identify suspects, and uphold our responsibilities as part of the justice system."
