About 50 firefighters are tackling a "significant" fire at a derelict three-storey hotel in Coventry.

Multiple fire crews were sent to the former Allesley Hotel on Birmingham Road at about 06:45 GMT on Sunday.

West Midlands Fire Service said 12 fire engines and multiple support vehicles were in attendance at the blaze, which involved "multiple parts" of the hotel.

Birmingham Road was currently closed in both directions, the fire service added.

Local residents have been advised to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed.
