Coventry volunteer laps up Super Bowl atmosphere

Pat Garner signed up to work as a volunteer at Las Vegas airport

A volunteer has been soaking up the Super Bowl atmosphere in Las Vegas after being selected to work there.

Pat Garner from Coventry helped welcome teams and fans of the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs at the airport and will be waving them off on Monday.

She first volunteered at the 2012 London Olympics when she turned 60 and has since worked at other events.

"It's been brilliant, absolutely brilliant," she said.

Mrs Garner said because her brother lives in Las Vegas, she was able to volunteer and have a holiday at the same time.

"They were looking for volunteers, I filled in the form, sent it off not knowing whether I'd hear or not, because of being out of the country."

She added she loved meeting people from all over the world and hearing their stories when she volunteered at events.

At the airport, she saw the 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs have their photograph taken.

Pat Garner has volunteered at different events like the Commonwealth Games

Her last shift will involve saying goodbye to fans from both teams as they head home after Kansas City Chiefs defended their NFL beating San Francisco 49ers in overtime.

Mrs Garner, from Walsgrave, has also volunteered at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, along with Coventry City of Culture and other events.

"People say why are you doing it, but you do get the bug," she said.
