A pupil's Olympic-style torch design will be made into a life-sized model after she won a competition.

Hester, from Finham Park Academy, Coventry, was one of more than 2,000 children who entered the contest.

The torch will be featured in a relay across the city on 22 February as part of the run up to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"You think there's so many [entries] and that it's 100% not going to be me," she said.

The torch is currently being manufactured at WMG at the University of Warwick.

Hester said she was really surprised to have her design chosen.

Her diamond-shaped torch was based on Coventry Cathedral's stained-glass windows.

"Friendship and coming together" was the message of the torch, she added.

More than 60 schools will take part in the Flame of Friendship, external relay, which will take five months to complete.

The event celebrates team work, sports and international collegiality.
