Recruitment day for Longtown on-call firefighters
- Published
Residents of a north Cumbria village are being urged to consider becoming part-time on-call firefighters.
The fire and rescue service in Longtown is holding an open day to recruit retained firefighters between 1100 and 1500 BST at the station on Saturday.
Fire chiefs want people who would not normally think about becoming a firefighter to consider joining the ranks of the retained team.
Successful applicants must pass a fitness test.
They must also live or work within five minutes of the station. They will also receive full training and be expected to attend a weekly two-hour drill session.
Retained firefighters are paid and on call to respond to a range of emergencies including fires, floods, road traffic collisions and chemical spills.
