Eden Council agrees next £60,000 worth of cuts

Another £60,000 worth of cuts have been agreed at Eden District Council.
It is part of £1.1m the Cumbria council is looking to save over the next four years in response to the government's spending review.
Councillors agreed to reduce some grants and funding for voluntary organisations. The £7,110 budget for Christmas lights was also scrapped.
The council, a Conservative and Independent Alliance coalition, said it had already made £200,000 of savings.
Eden District Council's leader, Councillor Gordon Nicolson said: "No councillor enjoyed considering the savings measures agreed.
"They will impact on services to the community and I regret this."
He said the council's government grant would reduce by almost 30% over the next four years, and postponing action would only increase problems in the future.
He said the savings proposals covered every aspect of council activity.
Other budget cuts set out by the council included an end to the annual contribution of £1,120 to Carlisle Settle Railway Company and withdrawing from the provision of CCTV.
