Listed 14th Century dairy gets £160,000 revamp

One of Kendal's oldest building is to get a £160,000 makeover to turn it into a gallery and restaurant.

The Castle Dairy is a Grade I listed stone structure in Wildman Street which dates back to the 14th Century.

South Lakeland Council owns the historic building and has secured cash to transform it into an art gallery with patisserie.

The refurbishment will take three months and when finished the new project will be run by Kendal College.

Jayne Kendall, the council's development implementation group manager, said: "I'm delighted that after many years of hard work this fantastic building is being brought back to life."
