Injured paragliders helped from Lake's Blencathra

Two paragliders had to be rescued from a Lake District mountain during two separate accidents on the same day.

A 55-year-old man suffered severe arm injuries when his parachute collapsed during a bad landing at Blease Fell, Blencathra, on Friday.

Rescuers from the Keswick Mountain Rescue Service Team came to his aid and he was airlifted to hospital.

Two hours later the team was called back to Scales Fell in the same area when a 44-year-old man broke his ankle.

A spokesman for the team said the paraglider had slipped after landing.

He was stretchered down to a waiting ambulance and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.
