Ormsgill Reservoir warning after toxic algae find

  • Published

People have been warned not to swim or paddle in a reservoir in Cumbria following the discovery of potentially toxic blue-green algae.

Dog walkers have also been advised to keep their pets out of the water at Ormsgill Reservoir, near Barrow.

Anglers should not eat any of their catch due to the algae, which can cause sickness or skin rashes.

The council's environmental protection unit has posted notices in the area and is continuing to monitor the situation.
