Local slate aids Keswick flood prevention

The slate is used to help make the concrete defence wall "blend in" with the town's look

Local stone has been used to put the finishing touches on a Cumbrian town's multi-million pound flood defences.

The £6.1m scheme by the Environment Agency aims to protect more than 180 homes and businesses in Keswick.

The town suffered significant damage when the River Greta overflowed during heavy rain in November 2009.

Elterwater slate has been used to line a defence wall along the river bank at Southey Hill Trading Estate, to ensure it blends in with the town's look.
