Nine new buses for Cumbria following £1.5m investment

Nine new buses are to start travelling on a scenic route through Cumbria following a £1.5m investment.

The vehicles will travel between the City of Lancaster in Lancashire and Grasmere in Cumbria.

Each £170,000 bus will be operated by Stagecoach, on the company's longest Cumbrian route.

The new vehicles will start on the 555 service from 22 October, with the route being renamed the 555 Freedom of the Lakes.

Nigel Winter, managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, said: "This is a significant investment in one of our most picturesque and popular bus routes that serves Lancaster through to Keswick via Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere.

"We have renamed the service 555 Freedom of the Lakes to reflect what is arguably the most scenic bus route that Stagecoach runs.

"The new buses will compliment the very best of the British countryside, with their distinctive green livery".

Each of the buses will be named after a famous mountain in the Lake District, including Coniston Old Man, Langdale Pikes and Helvellyn.
