Morecambe Bay NHS trust chair Professor Eddie Kane resigns

The chair of the Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has stood down from his position five months early.

Professor Eddie Kane will take up a full time position at Nottingham University.

The trust is currently being investigated over the deaths of babies at Furness General Hospital.

Professor Kane, who was responsible for the overall conduct of the trust, began his job in May 2008 and was due to step down in May 2012.

Ian Tomlinson, the current vice-chair, will take on the role as acting chair with immediate effect.
