Meetings to discuss Allerdale care homes shake up

A series of public meetings is to be held to discuss a shake-up in social care in Cumbria.

The county council is considering shutting Park Lodge in Aspatria, Woodlands in Distington and Richmond Park in Workington.

The council said the homes were struggling to meet residents' needs and money would be better spent elsewhere.

The first of eight drop-in sessions will take place at 15:00 GMT at Distington Community Centre.

There will be further meetings in the area throughout January.

The county council said if the three homes did close it would not happen for about 18 months and alternative places for residents would be found.

Two homes, Inglewood in Wigton and Parkside in Maryport, have also been earmarked for an upgrade, to help them support people with dementia.

There would also be investment to allow more people to be supported at home.
