Cockermouth flood recovery scheme recognised

A scheme set up to help a Cumbrian town repair the damage caused by flooding has been recognised at an awards ceremony.
Cockermouth was devastated in 2009 by flooding caused by record rainfall.
The Cockermouth Shopfront Heritage Grant Scheme was set up to help repair the damage and ensure the replacements were in keeping with the town's heritage.
At the Civic Trust Awards, it was one of seven community recognition winners.
The recognitions were awarded to projects "that provide a positive social, cultural, environmental or economic benefit to the local community".
Under the scheme, owners of flood-damaged buildings have been invited to submit applications for grants.
