Homes and commercial buildings flooded in Cumbria

Torrential rain showers have caused flooding in many areas of Cumbria and travel disruption on trains and roads.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said they went to more than 50 flood related incidents throughout the county.

Passengers on trains passing through Oxenholme Lake District are experiencing delays of about one hour.

South Lakeland District Council has started issuing sandbags from collection points in Ulverston, Windermere and Kendal.

In Kendal homes were being pumped. Some commercial properties have been affected, including the Iceland store in the town centre.

Flooding is reported at Sizergh Castle and in Arnside too.

In the Eden Valley fire crews have been pumping out in Cumrew, Langwathby and Little Salkeld.

Cumbria Police are warning drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions especially where visibility is affected by heavy rain.

The A69 has been closed both ways closed due to flooding between A68, Corbridge, and A6079 Rotary Way, Bridge End Roundabout, Hexham.
