The Carnegie Theatre improvements include new sound and lighting systems

A theatre in Cumbria has reopened following a major revamp.

The £220,000 project at the Carnegie Theatre in Workington included new sound and lighting systems, and additonal removable seating.

There were also repairs to the roof and external fabric of the building, and the auditorium and dressing rooms were redecorated.

It was funded by a grant from the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, and Allerdale Borough Council.

Councillor Mark Fryer, from Allerdale Borough Council, described the theatre's future as "looking good".

He said: "The theatre is an important asset for the town, and the refurbishment has been received positively by the user groups."
