Traffic delay warning over Cockermouth Hospital work

The new hospital will replace a flood-damaged 100-year-old facility

People in a Cumbria town are being warned that some traffic disruption is likely while gas, electricity and water are connected to a new hospital.

The £11m complex in Cockermouth is replacing a 100-year-old building damaged during flooding in 2009.

NHS Cumbria said the contractor was working closely with the utilities providers to ensure any disruption was kept to a minimum for residents.

Building work is expected to be complete by summer 2013.

Once fully operational in the autumn, it would mean the return of consultant clinics to the town for the first time since the floods.
