Plans to redevelop land near a Grade II listed saltwater lido in Cumbria have been unveiled.

South Lakeland District Council and Grange Town Council want to redevelop the site at Berners Close, Grange over Sands, into affordable housing.

A play area and community allotments are also included in the proposal.

Grange Town councillor Tom Harvey said it was the first step in a "much longer road" to bring the 1932 lido back into use as a community "asset".

The public consultation on the plans ends 24 May.

Cllr Harvey said a small part of the site would be sold on the open market to raise funds for the redevelopment of the outdoor lido.

The current swimming complex is to be demolished and there are also plans for a new public car park.

Grange Lido was designed by Grange over Sands urban district council surveyor Bernard Smith. It closed in 1993.

A lido is a general term for a public outdoor swimming pool, often featuring changing rooms and areas for sunbathing and relaxation.
