Carlisle's old fire station to become £1m arts centre

Plans to build a £1m arts centre in an old fire station in Carlisle have been given the go ahead by councillors.
Carlisle City Council approved plans to transform the former fire station on Warwick Street into a space for galleries, workshops and meeting rooms.
It is hoped it will help develop arts and culture in the city for local artists and groups.
Leader of Carlisle City Council, Colin Glover, said the council had "every confidence" it was a worthy investment.
The council said it recognised "weakness" in arts and entertainments programmes and wanted to develop a "sustainable facility" to act as a focal point for the city.
