A paraglider was seriously injured after being blown off course and landing on a Lake District fell.

The man suffered severe head and leg injuries when he landed below the Old Man of Coniston on Wednesday afternoon.

He was treated at the scene then carried by stretcher to a helicopter by members of Coniston Mountain Rescue team and soldiers from Catterick, who were training in the area.

He was flown by Great North Air Ambulance to hospital in Newcastle.
