Electric car charging points installed across Cumbria

Electric car charging points are to be installed across Cumbria using a government grant of £562,500 in a bid to create a county-wide infrastructure

Carlisle, Penrith, Kendal, Barrow, Workington, Whitehaven, Keswick, Millom and Cockermouth will get chargers.

Cabinet member for highways Keith Little said the area was currently "pretty much a no-go area for travel by electric vehicle".

The council is also adding 15 electric vehicles to cut its carbon footprint.

The grant is part of the government's national Go Ultra Low campaign to install charging points nationwide and encourage the use of very low emission vehicles.
