A 20-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to abusing elderly residents at a Cumbrian nursing home.

Claire Strong, of Clifton, near Penrith, admitted three counts of ill treatment of residents at Beacon Edge Nursing Home in Penrith.

Carlisle magistrates were told she took pictures of residents at the Bupa-owned home, which cares for people with dementia, in humiliating circumstances.

She was bailed to return to Carlisle Crown Court next month.

The court heard the neglect, which sparked a police investigation, occurred between January and June last year.

Two other care home staff face similar charges.

Chevonne Benson, from Penrith, faces seven counts of ill-treatment or neglect of residents at Beacon Edge.

William Bowman, 21 and also from Penrith, faces 10 charges of ill-treatment or neglect of residents at Beacon Edge. He is also charged with carrying out a sexual offence against a woman in the Penrith area.

They are due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court for a plea and management hearing in May.
