The case against a man found dead after being charged with murdering his wife has been closed.

John Michael Parry, 81, was accused of killing 80-year-old Meryl Parr at a house in Ainstable near Carlisle in September last year.

He disappeared in December and his body was later found at the River Eden between Kirkoswald and Little Salkeld.

At Carlisle Crown Court Judge Paul Batty formally acknowledged Mr Parry had died and closed his file.
