Carlisle City Council agrees £1.2m budget cuts and tax freeze

Carlisle City Council will freeze council tax for the second consecutive year as it attempts to cut millions of pounds from its budget.

The Labour-run council approved savings of £1.2m for its 2015/16 budget at a full council meeting on Tuesday.

The authority faces making more than £4m of savings in the next four years.

Council leader Colin Glover said they had made some "tough decisions" but the council has protected frontline services.

Mr Glover said £663,000 had already been saved from the 2015/16 budget.

As part of the budget, funding has been allocated to maintain Carlisle as a "vibrant city", as well as investing in the Old Town Hall and supporting community projects, Mr Glover added.
