A £35m bypass in Cumbria has reduced accidents in the area by 80%, a safety report has found.
The A590 dual carriageway near Grange-over-Sands was built in 2008 to divert traffic from the villages of High and Low Newton after to several serious and fatal accidents.
A study by Highways England found, external collisions in the area reduced from five per year to one.
A spokesman said they were "delighted" to see the massive drop in accidents.
The report also found a reduction in traffic from 17,900 to 550 each day, and faster journey times for road users, with three minutes shaved off journey times between the roundabouts with the B5277 and Newby Bridge during peak travel periods.
