New 'North's national' daily newspaper launched

CN Group said the national newspaper was the right package of content and design, spiced with a "distinctly northern flavour"

A new daily newspaper described as the "North's national" is being launched.

Called 24, the title will be published by Cumbria-based CN Group and will provide a "distinctly northern perspective" on big news stories.

The 40-page tabloid will go on sale in the north of England and south-west Scotland on 20 June priced at 40p.

A CN Group spokesman said after "so much doom and gloom" in the industry, the title would be a viable alternative in the national newspaper market.

The paper will be published from Monday to Friday and distributed from Preston to Lockerbie and Hexham to Workington.

CN Group, whose titles include the North West Evening Mail, News & Star and Cumberland News, said the title would include a politically-neutral digest of national stories, alongside features and regionally-focused columns.

A 24 national news section will also roll out across the publisher's regional news websites.

The announcement comes just weeks after daily newspaper the New Day announced it was closing nine weeks after it was launched.
