Firefighters at Sellafield are to stage a third strike in a dispute over pay and job roles.

Members of the GMB union voted to take action after rejecting an offer of an extra £4.30 a week.

The walk out on Thursday comes the day after one by other workers, also GMB members, in a separate pay row, and by catering and security workers employed by a contractor on the site.

Sellafield Ltd said there would be full emergency safety cover in place.

Chris Jukes from the GMB said additional considerations needed to be made for firefighters who could be called on as paramedics at the nuclear reprocessing site.

He said: "The firefighter's job has been re-evaluated by three separate individual professionals, all recommending an increase, but Sellafield management have repeatedly ignored the work they commissioned and refuse to pay what is fair and reasonable."

In a statement Sellafield said: "The safety and security of the Sellafield site are our priorities. Full emergency safety cover will be in place during the strike".
