Carlisle murder investigation searches after police receive information

Police investigating the murder of a 24-year-old man who was stabbed in Carlisle have searched two addresses.

Ryan Kirkpatrick died on Saturday at about 20:50 BST at Carlyle's Court in the city centre.

On Wednesday afternoon armed officers were sent as a "precaution" while two addresses were searched in the Whernside area, Cumbria Police said.

No arrests were made and detectives said the raids were carried out after the force received information.

A 23-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder, and three others arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

'Targeted attack'

Police have also revealed they believe there were two primary attackers, both of whom had their faces hidden.

Det Ch Supt Dean Holden said: "This case is our number one priority and our officers are working 24/7 on a number of lines of enquiry as we aim to get justice for the family of Mr Kirkpatrick.

"This was a targeted attack against a man who had previous issues with the assailants."

A team of at least 60 officers are working on the case, with a major incident room set up.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about Mr Kirkpatrick's death to come forward.

They are also appealing for any dash-cam footage from those driving in the area at the time of the attack.
