A driver who died after two lorries collided in south Cumbria has been named.

It happened on the A590 westbound, between junction 36 and Brettargh Holt, on Thursday at 06:15 BST.

Malcolm Houghton, who was 58 and from Southport, died at the scene. The driver of the other lorry was unhurt.

Northbound vehicles had been diverted from the M6 that morning due to an earlier vehicle fire north of junction 36, police said.

The road remained closed until late afternoon while a forensic examination was carried out and the two vehicles were recovered.

Witnesses to the crash, who had been travelling north along the M6 from Burton services and were diverted at the time, have been asked to contact police.
