Kendal widow's home burgled just days after her husband died

A grieving elderly widow had her home burgled just days after her husband died, police have said.
It happened sometime between 15 and 20 December, at an address on Wattsfield Road in Kendal, Cumbria.
The woman returned home to discover the break-in and sentimental jewellery stolen, including a distinctive Tutankhamun necklace.
Cumbria Constabulary described it as a "despicable" crime, and patrols have been stepped up in the community.
Money, credit cards and personal items were also taken.
The victim said: "This was one of the most devastating times of my life, which was made so much worse by returning to my home to find such sentimental and personal items taken from me."
Residents are being encouraged to ensure their homes are secure, and to leave a light on in a room with the curtains closed if they go out at night.
Det Insp Andy Lamb said: "Being burgled in your home can be extremely traumatic - especially just days before Christmas.
"This despicable crime which happened to a vulnerable, elderly lady when she was at her lowest, really shows the impact crimes like this can have."
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
