Windermere road upgrades could 'unlock' site plans - developer

Proposals to upgrade roads in a popular Lake District town have been submitted ahead of plans for a wider development.
Urban Splash Developments previously held a public consultation for the Windermere Gateway Project.
The project involves the transformation of the Orrest Head Farm site for tourism and housing opportunities.
Planning documents submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) said works to the A591 and Thwaites Lane would "unlock" the site.
Urban Splash Developments submitted a scoping report to determine if an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was necessary for the construction of a raft of road improvements on the A591 and Thwaites Lane.
The proposed upgrades involve an extension to the Windermere gateway, the introduction of a new junction off the A591 into the Orrest Head Farm site, and an improved junction between A591 and Thwaites Lane.
If screening from the LDNPA identifies significant environmental effects, an environmental impact assessment is necessary, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The initial public consultation for the project was held on 5 March and focused on proposed highways improvements including the creation of a new pedestrian route, enhanced cycle connections, and enhancements to the A591 and Thwaites Lane.
