Youngsters who break into a derelict school in Derbyshire are being warned they are putting their lives at risk.

Taxal Lodge, near Whaley Bridge, has been damaged by several fires and contains "numerous hazards" such as unsafe floors and staircases.

Anyone inside the building would also be at risk if another fire breaks out, said police.

Officers will be patrolling the area, but also want parents to warn their children about the dangers of the site.

Sgt Tim Barlow said: "There is no lighting inside the building so it is almost impossible to avoid the numerous hazards inside.

"I would strongly advise people to stay away from the building and to not enter. It is not a playground but an extremely dangerous place for young people to be."
