Derby goalkeeper 'toilet artwork' auctioned on eBay

A Championship footballer has auctioned off an art installation which prompted complaints from his neighbours in a Derbyshire village.

Derby County goalkeeper Stephen Bywater spray-painted a portable toilet and horse box in the garden of his home in Sutton-on-the-Hill.

The installation also used to feature an inflatable sex doll.

The lot sold for £470 on the eBay website. He has said the proceeds will be donated to the Teen Pride charity.

'Private issue'

The auction did not include the inflatable doll, which Mr Bywater said on his Twitter page he had "binned".

As well as the portable toilet and horse box, the auction's inventory included a high-visibility jacket, a traffic cone and three mattresses.

The auction, which attracted 37 bids, ended on Friday night.

Last week, following complaints from neighbours, Mr Bywater covered the artwork with a tarpaulin and issued an apology through the football club.

He said: "Although I consider this a private issue, I would like to apologise to any supporters and local residents in Derbyshire who have been offended."

In a statement, Derby County said the club "completely disassociated itself with this type of behaviour".
