Safety operation for Derbyshire motorcyclists begins

A police operation aimed at reducing motorbike deaths on Derbyshire's roads has begun.

Marked and unmarked police vehicles will be targeting roads where there is a history of accidents or speeding as part of Operation Focus.

Safety camera vans will be sited at known collision hot spots.

Officers have also urged motorcyclists who are bringing their bikes out for the first time after the winter to check the condition of their vehicles.

Riders have been told they should pay particular attention to the tyres on their bikes.

Insp Adam Waterfall, of Derbyshire Police, said: "Bikers are drawn to the Derbyshire countryside because it has challenging roads - but too many of them are taking risks at speed and running into trouble.

"We hope to prevent crashes by making our presence felt on routes where bikers are regularly coming to grief."
